Why this exists.
I grew up on a five-acre farm in Palm Beach with almost no internet. My dad and I shared a garage we'd turned into a living space, and we had DirecTV. One channel, Link TV, ran a world music segment that played music videos from everywhere.
It's been well over ten years and I still remember a video of Finnish farmers singing. I don't know if Link TV still runs that segment, but I wish it did. So I built HotWorldMusic to keep track of contemporary artists from every corner of the planet.
The name is a play on words: the music is hot, and so, thanks to climate change, is the world. The map is the upgrade over Link TV. Click anywhere and hear what's playing there. The US has a huge range of genres, but so does Russia, which has its own rap, R&B and goth scenes.
